How do you get an entire city to make music together?

With percussion instruments. With your own body. With professionals from around the world. And with you.

On August 23 at 4 p.m., Ballhofplatz will become a shared stage. You can just drop by and join in for free—no registration, no preparation, and no prior musical experience required. On site, you’ll learn simple body percussion sounds that form the rhythmic foundation of the piece.‍

Then pick up your ONE CITY. ONE PULSE. Participation Kit. You can get the kit at the Holzhalle during Opening Night on August 19, and then daily starting at 5 p.m. at the ünfo-Point in the Ballhof foyer, the festival center. It costs 15 euros and includes percussion instruments as well as a QR code that takes you directly to a video tutorial.

Together with STOMP performer Dominik Schad, you’ll learn your own part step by step—without any sheet music or musical experience. During the festival, you can practice it on your own, with friends, or together with other participants.

On Sunday, three groups will finally come together: the spontaneous participants with their body percussion, everyone who has prepared using the Participation Kit, and the professional musicians of the überschlag Festival. Body sounds, instruments, and professional ensemble playing will come together to create a large community piece.

A concert that can only happen once. Just stop by. Get ready to do your part. Or just listen at first and let yourself get swept up in the moment. The main thing is that you become part of the shared pulse. ONE CITY. ONE PULSE.
