Pavillon - main hall

An exciting duo programme with original compositions on the borderline between improvisation, performance, electronics, video and percussion.

Vanessa Porter is one of the world's most versatile percussionists. As a soloist, she combines contemporary works with improvisation, electronics and performing arts and effortlessly creates impressively diverse sound spaces. Her programme folie à deux - for percussion and electronics has been performed at venues including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie Paris and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

Born in Istanbul, Emil Kuyumcuyan was influenced by both jazz and Anatolian music. He is a composer, electric musician and percussionist. He was recently appointed professor of percussion at the Frankfurt University of Music. In 2019, he created his first audiovisual work entitled I S T A N B U L | the roots, a multimedia performance inspired by the city. He is a sought-after partner in the most important contemporary formations such as Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern and Slagwerk Den Haag.

BETTER ME deals with the increasing desire for self-determination, (self-)staging and confrontation that characterises our society. Every individual wants to be heard, seen and recognised, fights for (their own) justice and to live according to their own ideas. BETTER ME artistically describes the search for self-determination, law and justice as well as the resulting consequences.
