A concert full of youthful energy, rhythmic precision and the joy of making music together.
The Percussion UNIT of the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH) is one of the most exciting training grounds for the next generation of international percussionists. With remarkable precision, infectious energy and an unmistakable joy of performance, the ensemble presents a programme spanning classical repertoire, contemporary music and orchestral percussion at its most vibrant.
The Percussion UNIT brings together the students of the renowned percussion class of Prof. Henrik M. Schmidt. Many of its members already rank among the most promising young orchestral percussionists in Europe and are set to shape concert halls and opera houses around the world in the years to come.
For Überschlag 2026, the ensemble presents a programme showcasing the full spectrum of contemporary percussion ensemble playing. At its centre is a special arrangement of excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s legendary West Side Story for large percussion ensemble — bursting with rhythm, energy and orchestral colour.
The programme is complemented by Gene Koshinski’s virtuosic and playful beyond the bEnd as well as Andi Morag’s Octabones.
