Nick Woud

Timpani

You don't really need to write anything more about Nick Woud. He is probably one of the most famous timpanists in the world.

His career began very early, at the age of 22 with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and today, after decades as Solo Timpanist of Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam and two years after his retirement, it seems to be far from over.

Throughout this time, he has been an unparalleled authority in the world of percussion and timpani.

His commitment is extraordinary in many respects: Nick has taught as a lecturer at the music academies of Hilversum and Utrecht. For the past 35 years he has been senior tutor for timpani at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

In addition, he has published important timpani instructional works, a book of pieces for xylophone, vibraphone and glockenspiel and, as a composer, a considerable number of works for orchestra, brass instruments in various formations and for timpani and percussion.

His interest in the technical aspects of the timpani led to a long-standing collaboration with Adams Musical Instruments as a consultant. The development of Adams timpani was done in close contact with Nick. The last project was the development of the Adams Schnellar timpani, which he will of course bring along for you.

We are overjoyed that we were able to bring this timpani veteran to Hanover to share his wealth of experience with you!
