“We have the century of drummers. Drums are the oldest instrument in the world and very, very new at the moment. We are the pioneers of this instrument”.
This quote from Vivi Vassileva describes very well what awaits us at Überschlag. Vivi Vassileva makes the drums sound and elicits true tapestries of sound from the marimba and vibraphone. Her enormous musicality and her sensitivity for sound structures leave nothing to be desired. Within seconds, the charismatic musician wins over her audience, young and old alike, with her music and charm. Together with her own percussion ensemble “Extasi” she will bring a rousing programme to the stage.
Vivi Vassileva discovered percussion on a beach in Bulgaria. At the age of 13 she won a first prize in the national competition “Jugend Musiziert”. She studied with Martin Grubinger and earned international prizes, including 2 special prizes at the 63rd ARD competition for her outstanding performance as the youngest semifinalist. Performances as a soloist with orchestras and her own ensembles followed. With her own compositions for percussion she won the 1st prize in the competition of the Kulturkreis Gasteig 2016. In autumn 2017 Vivi Vassileva was awarded the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize. In March 2019 she had her debut with her percussion quartet in the Berlin Philharmonie.
The composer Oriol Cruixent wrote a concerto for percussion and orchestra “Oraculum” for her and the world premiere took place in April 2019 in Wuppertal. In February 2022 she played the world premiere of the concerto for percussion and orchestra “Recycling Concerto” by G. A. Mayrhofer with the Württ. Philharmonie Reutlingen under Alexander Liebreich. In 20/21 and 21/22 she will be presented as “Great Talent” at Konzerthaus Vienna and in 2022 she will make her debut at Philharmonie Essen. Since the 21/22 season she has been invited to perform with the “Junge Wilden” at the Konzerthaus Dortmund.
