Wolfram Winkel studied classical percussion at the Hamburg University of Music and Drama with Prof. Joachim Winkler, at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and at the Munich University of Music and Drama with Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Peter Sadlo (diploma and master class in Munich). During his studies in Hamburg, Winkel also took the contact course in popular music with Prof. Udo Dahmen, which gave him important impulses for his career as a polyrhythmist.
As a guest of the Ensemble Modern, he toured Europe and Asia with Steve Reich for over ten years. He has performed as a soloist with the Hilversum Radio Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, among others.
Since 2007 he has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and is a guest at academies, universities, symposia and orchestras as a polyrhythmist.
